# Quil > Quil is a reboot-proof terminal multiplexer for developers who run complex multi-tool AI workflows. Type `quil` after a restart and your tabs, panes, AI sessions, and infrastructure tools snap back in under 30 seconds. Quil is open source (Apache-2.0) and ships as two binaries — `quil`, the terminal UI, and `quild`, the daemon that keeps panes alive — for Linux, macOS and native Windows. The documentation lives in the GitHub repository; this site shows a guided tour and routes to the docs. ## Use cases - [Run Claude Code, Codex and OpenCode at once.](https://quil.cc/#agents): Each agent gets its own pane, folder and conversation. Give one its own git worktree and they never touch each other's files. Docs: [Hand-started agents](https://github.com/artyomsv/quil/blob/master/docs/features.md#hand-started-agents), [Spawn a pane in a worktree](https://github.com/artyomsv/quil/blob/master/docs/features.md#spawn-a-pane-in-a-worktree), [AI session resume](https://github.com/artyomsv/quil/blob/master/docs/features.md#ai-session-resume) - [Let one agent hand out the work.](https://quil.cc/#orchestrator): Through quil mcp an agent opens panes, starts other agents, gives them tasks and reads what they did. Docs: [Wiring Quil into your AI client](https://github.com/artyomsv/quil/blob/master/docs/mcp.md#wiring-quil-into-your-ai-client), [Delegating work to another pane](https://github.com/artyomsv/quil/blob/master/docs/mcp.md#delegating-work-to-another-pane), [The 36 tools](https://github.com/artyomsv/quil/blob/master/docs/mcp.md#the-36-tools), [Shipped templates and limits](https://github.com/artyomsv/quil/blob/master/docs/workspace-templates.md#shipped-templates-and-limits) - [Close the laptop. The agents keep going.](https://quil.cc/#remote): Put the work on a server. Quil connects over ssh, opens no port, and reconnects by itself. Docs: [Remote daemon over SSH](https://github.com/artyomsv/quil/blob/master/docs/features.md#remote-daemon-over-ssh), [When the link drops](https://github.com/artyomsv/quil/blob/master/docs/features.md#when-the-link-drops), [Projects on another machine](https://github.com/artyomsv/quil/blob/master/docs/features.md#projects-on-another-machine), [Windows remotes over SSH](https://github.com/artyomsv/quil/blob/master/docs/remote-windows.md) - [Skip permissions. Inside a box.](https://quil.cc/#sandbox): Run an agent with no confirmations inside Docker. It sees the checkout. Your keys and other projects are not there. Docs: [Using it](https://github.com/artyomsv/quil/blob/master/docs/sandbox-panes.md#using-it), [Building the image](https://github.com/artyomsv/quil/blob/master/docs/sandbox-panes.md#building-the-image), [What the sandbox does and does not bound](https://github.com/artyomsv/quil/blob/master/docs/sandbox-panes.md#what-the-sandbox-does-and-does-not-bound) - [See who needs you. Find anything.](https://quil.cc/#too-much): One key jumps to the agent that has waited longest. One search reads the scrollback of every pane. Docs: [Projects](https://github.com/artyomsv/quil/blob/master/docs/features.md#projects), [Command palette](https://github.com/artyomsv/quil/blob/master/docs/features.md#command-palette), [Notification center](https://github.com/artyomsv/quil/blob/master/docs/features.md#notification-center), [Desktop notifications](https://github.com/artyomsv/quil/blob/master/docs/features.md#desktop-notifications) - [Reboot. Nothing lost.](https://quil.cc/#remember): Tabs, splits, folders, history, notes and agent conversations come back. The panes on gpu01 never stopped. Single binary, its own PTY and VT engine, a socket API agents can drive, and a language-agnostic plugin system. Quil's closest philosophical twin. - [Quil vs Agent of Empires](https://quil.cc/vs/aoe/): A Rust TUI + React web dashboard that manages AI coding agents on top of tmux, with git worktrees, Docker sandboxing, a mobile-first 'structured view', and remote phone access. Backed by the Mozilla.ai community. - [Quil vs tmux](https://quil.cc/vs/tmux/): The de-facto Unix terminal multiplexer. Server-side sessions, scriptable plugins, steep learning curve, shipped by default on most distros alongside screen. - [Quil vs Zellij](https://quil.cc/vs/zellij/): Modern Rust terminal multiplexer with a friendly UX, WASM plugins, and sane defaults. Released in 2021. - [Quil vs WezTerm](https://quil.cc/vs/wezterm/): A GPU-accelerated cross-platform terminal emulator with built-in multiplexer features, written in Rust, extensible via Lua. Released by Wez Furlong. - [Quil vs Ghostty](https://quil.cc/vs/ghostty/): A fast, feature-rich terminal emulator written in Zig by Mitchell Hashimoto, with platform-native UI and GPU-accelerated rendering. macOS and Linux, MIT-licensed, 1.3.1 current. It draws the window — it does not keep the work. - [Quil vs GNU Screen](https://quil.cc/vs/screen/): The original Unix terminal multiplexer, first released in 1987. Still shipped by default on most Unix distributions. ## Blog - [How to Resume Your Claude Code Session After a Reboot — Automatically](https://quil.cc/blog/resume-claude-code-session-after-reboot/): Claude Code forgets nothing — the process just dies.
